Sherwood Shaver was assigned to Headquarters Battery, 153rd Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theater of Operations. He was wounded in Germany on December 12, 1944, losing a hand. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He returned home after the war and became postmaster of Troy Township on December 1, 1945. He served as Troy Postmaster until retirement.
